Description

Comprises notes written by Wells in the last months of her life. She was dying of throat cancer and could not speak, so wrote down her conversational words. The conversations are not easy to follow, but reveal some of her philosophies and attitudes.

Readers should note that she often drew a line under words when she had finished speaking and expected an answer. Bim (her only single daughter, Alice) was her principal carer and is the one most frequently addressed.

Includes a partial handwritten transcription by a family member, and a newspaper clipping that includes mention of Wells.

Wells was Secretary of the National Council of Women, and the first women City Councillor in Christchurch City Council. She worked as a school teacher and was an adherent to the Rudolph Steiner ideas of education.
