Nancy Barnett was born in Christchurch in 1930. Describes the onset of poliomyelitisio (polio) as a child, its treatment and impact on her schooling.Talks about training as an occupational therapist and specialising in the care of the disabled. Describes working as co-ordinator of the Child Potential Unit in Rotorua and teaching occupational therapy at Central Institute of Technology (CIT). Discusses being the first woman to be elected on to the national body of CCS and other work as a counsellor for NZ Marriage Guidance, court counsellor, hospice counsellor and CAB volunteer. Notes that she has been awarded a QSM.
