Description

Photographic negatives of images from two rolls of film, taken by Judith Binney in 1999, chiefly of land and coastal areas on, and near, the former sites of Matakerepu Pa and Whakarae Pa, near Ohiwa Harbour.

Also images of an exhibition held at Gisborne Army Hall.

Also images of roadside graffiti reading "DOC is poisoning Te Urewera Ban Poison"

Also images of two murals at Taneatua (Whakatane district) by an unidentified artist. One features a peeling copy of a photograph taken in 1908 by George Bourne, showing the Levites (Riwaiti), Rua Kenana's teaching order. Underneath, partly exposed, is the Tuhoe flag. The other mural features Rua Kenana riding the white horse of Te Kooti over the great plateau of Maungapohatu, carrying the flag of Maungapohatu confiscated by the police in 1916.

Corresponding negatives are at 35mm-99494-99505. (Further negatives of the images of the murals are at 35mm-100268-100270. Prints for some of those images were found later and are also stored here.)
