Description

Photographic negatives of images from three rolls of film, taken by Judith Binney in March 1995 during her research into the life of Te Kooti Arikirangi Te Turuki. Corresponding prints are at PAColl-9928-12.

Most images are of either: scenes at the Whanganui tribes' occupation of Pakaitore (also known as Moutoa Gardens) at Whanganui taken 18 and 25 March 1995, OR the site of Te Porere-a-Rereao, Te Kooti's redoubt near Papakai village, Taumarunui county, taken 19 March 1995.

The Pakaitore images include a set of group portraits with Niko Tangaroa, Ken Mair, Tame Iti and others, photographed with the Tuhoe flag 'Te Mana Motuhaka o Tuhoe'.

Other images comprise:

- Maunsell (Reverend George Maunsell) mission bell of 1826, location unidentified, possibly in Hokianga

- Marae buildings at Koriniti, Whanganui

- 'Fairburn House', location unidentified. Under renovation? or being demolished? or being prepared for removal?

- Demolition of the State Cinema, location unidentified

Accompanying information - The three paper packets that originally held prints and negatives, have a few descriptive notes by Binney and are held at PAColl-9928-11.

Arrangement: Negative numbering does not reflect chronological order as negatives were numbered before the chronological order was ascertained. To see items chronologically, they should be viewed in the following order: Film 1: 35mm-99037 to 99046. Film 2: 35mm-98921 to 98926, 99023 to 99026. Film 3: 99027 to 99036.
