The diary describes his experieces as a patient in Mundros and Malta.
England, a signaller in the Auckland Infantry Regiment, saw action in the Gallipoli Campaign until he was assessed as unfit for further active service, 27 July 1915. Initally he was hospitalised at Mundros and was then moved to St Patrick's Hospital in Malta on 27 August 1915. On 9 September he was moved to England and subsequently invalided back to New Zealand on 16 December 1915.
