The diary, written on sheets of Army Messages and signals forms, describes his experiences during his participation in the Gallipoli Campaign.
England, a signaller in the Auckland Infantry Regiment, embarked for Gallipoli from Alexandra on 12 April 1915 and saw action in the Gallipoli Campaign until he was hospitalised on 27 Jul 1915. He was invalided back to New Zealand from England on 16 December 1915.
