Includes a Ngai Tahu whakapapa [genealogy] from Rangi and Papatuanuku to Paikea, supplied to Cowan by T E Green of Tuahiwi in 1907. Also includes an account relating to stocks in Wellington and New Plymouth, sourced from John Waters who arrived from England in 1841 on the barque 'Slains Castle', written in an unknown hand. Also includes handwritten notes by H Fildes about John Bryce, Wiremu Kingi Whiti and other research matters including Benjamin Boyd and New Zealand flax.
