Notebook inscribed `William Malone, New Plymouth, New Zealand, 17 March 1909'. It is segmented alphabetically, A-Z. It contains entries on historical battles, including notes on military tactics and terms, illustrated by maps and profiles of the battlefields. Includes descriptions of battles in the Napoleonic Wars and the Japanese-Russian war of 1905. Some battles highlighted are `The Battle of Albuera' (1811), `The Battle of Fuentes de Onoro' (1811), `The battle of Gunki Yama (Standard Hill, 1904), `The Battle of Motien-ling' (1904), and `The Battle of Telissu' (1904). It also contains notes on military defence practices.
