Research notes and clippings mainly relating to the Waikato War and a story about `The ngarara of Otautahanga' which was later published in Fairy folk tales of the Maori [chapter VII - A Basket of eels]. Also newspaper clippings and a letter to a Mr Griffen from J J O'Brien, written in 1920. The research notes and clippings were all loosely folded into a marbled bound notebook. Also included is a handwritten waiata and notes about the meaning of `the flag Tainui' written in an unknown hand.
