In the foreground, the carved and feathered prow of a Maori canoe, with a fainter drawing of a carved stern in the right background. On a hill to the left, the palisades and several whare of a hill pa.
Resembles a drawing by Clarke in the British Library 'Prow of a canoe, Hauraki, 1851' Add MS 19954 folio 67 (79); also closely resembles a copy by George Swainson 'Head of a canoe, Hauraki, March 4 / 51', a drawing in the collection of Auckland Museum.
