- Description
A view of the Auckland foreshore, mid-19th century, from the water. A number of similarly-built houses can be seen near the water's edge, and one of them is surrounded by a low wooden fence with two gates (possibly being the house of Captain Denny). A small wooden pier, probably an early form of Wynyard Pier, runs out to the water. Various people are seen at leisure on the shore, including a woman with an umbrella, two men reclining against rocks, and a couple of children in a small rowboat. Although the hills are visible in the background, there is no sign of developing roads or other buildings further up the hillside.
