Description

Shows Prime Minister Rob Muldoon dressed as a Muslim cleric. In the background is the Beehive with a Muslim onion dome on the top. Rows of people face towards Mecca and pray to Allah. Text in the top left reads 'Big lamb deal with Iran signed!' Rob Muldoon reports that in the end they got a good deal, praise be to Allah, after being obliged to make a few concessions. Context: Iran had just recently become an officially Islamic state and was still something of a pariah nation after the US Embassy seige and hostage- taking of the previous year. But with our EEC quotas shrinking, we were desperate for someone to buy our produce and Iran had lots of oil money. (Context note by cartoonist)
