Sir Joseph Ward dressed in football clothing, kissing the hand of a young Welsh woman, after handing her a scroll marked 'Home rule for Wales'. He has a silver fern patch on the seat of his pants, and a rugby ball in his left hand. Refers both to Ward's political views and to New Zealand-Welsh rivalry on the rugby field
