Description

Shows various caricatures of an orchestra playing instruments, as part of a programme for the Christchurch Youth Orchestra's production of 'Spring Frolic', conducted by Peter Zwartz, in October 1977. Included is a sheet on which preliminary pencil sketches of the cartoons have been made.

Both preliminary sketches and cartoons have been individually lettered, from B to H

The concert and drawings for the accompanying programme are based on the Hoffnung Music Festival Concerts. Gerard Hoffnung (1925-1959) was a cartoonist and gifted musician who in 1956 started the Hoffnung Music Festivals, an original brand of symphonic caricature that received international acclaim
