Description

Two uniform badges worn by Edward Alington during his service in the Great War. The hat badge of the 23rd Reinforcements is a standard 'type 30' frame hat badge. Shows a WW1 soldier and a traditionally-clothed Maori standing either side of a plam tree with the initials NZ. The motto 'Ake ake' is at their feet. On the reverse is stamped '9CT'. The badge's pin is missing. The collar badge features a white heron and the words '1st Canterbury Regt' at its feet, with the motto 'Ake Ake kia kaha' underneath that.
