Gould's "suppressed plates", the issue of which only two parts were published before he went to Australia, but which resumed two years later in the main series. Engravings hand-coloured, of which three are New Zealand birds, the spotted shag (Phalacorcorax punctutus), the kaka (Nestor hypopolius), and 'kiwi kiwi' (Apteryx australis). Cf. Bagnall.
