Shows a view featuring a hill covered in dense native bush, particularly tree ferns and ground cover, with a path cut through it. A waterfall, with mountains in the distance, can be seen at the right. A soldier sits with his back to the artist in the foreground, dressed in a regimental uniform comprising a white peaked cap, red jacket and blue trousers.
The other images in this group suggest that the artist visited both the Bay of Plenty and Auckland regions.
