Cartoon shows Muldoon speaking to David Lange to whom he is handing the reins of a jumping, snorting horse wearing a saddle labelled "NZ". There is a sign beside the horse indicating that it has been "Broken in by Sir Robert".
The 1984 general election was held on 14 July, and was won by the Labout Party, ending nine years of National government.
