A transcription by Barry Hitchcock of Henry Hitchcock's diary of the voyage of the clipper `Calypso' to New Zealand from London, 1874. Henry Hitchcock travelled to New Zealand with his nine siblings and parents, Clarke Duchesne and Sarah Hitchcock. Diary begins on 27 July 1874 as the Hitchcock family leaves Bury heading to the East India Docks to join the `Calypso'. Diary comprises daily weather reports and navigation details for the transit of the ship. Also occasional entries for life onboard the 'Calypso', including meals. Diary concludes as the vessel is towed into Port Chalmers on 26 October 1874. PDF file also includes scanned images of the `Calypso', Henry Hitchcock, Captain James Leslie and a world map detailing the course of the `Calypso's' journey.
