Covers all New Zealand, with emphasis on Wellington (1880s), Napier (late 1880s-1890s), Dunedin & Catlins (1890s-1900s). Strong on railway topics and mountaineering.
Accompanying information - Photographic Archive backfile. Includes photocopies of items brought in by Mr J Williams, grandson of William Williams, which may assist with identification of some photographs already held.
Relationship complexity - In 2013 Akaroa Museum reported that they hold 1999.10, a hand written account of a cycle ride from Riccarton in Christchurch to Akaroa and return dated 12 Sept 1908. One of the cyclists is believed to be Edgar Williams and of the 12 prints in the book at least one (1/2-140538) was taken by William Williams. See Reftracker RTR1021905. Scans of the item the Museum holds are at RTR1022264 and RTR1022265.
William Williams (1859-1949) was a gifted amateur photographer. His son Edgar Richard Williams (1892-1983), also an enthusiastic photographer, maintained his fathers and his own work.
