- Description
The broad-leafed goblet-aster
Reproduced on the verso of the text sheet for 'Four more watercolours of New Zealand flowers and berries by Emily Cumming Harris' (Wellington, Alexander Turnbull Library Endowment Trust, 1979 [i.e. 1980]).
Before removal of the old mat by the Library in the 1970s, the mat of this work included the additional information that the specimen (native to the sub-Antarctic Islands) came from Adams Island, the southernmost of the Auckland Island group. This information is inferred from the statement in the text sheet for the 1979 publication that the specimen came from Adams Island. Written on the back of the mount, in the hand of the then Art Librarian, Janet Paul, is the additional information 'By Mr E. Lukins' (hidden)'. This information was probably also on or under the old mat.
