Description

A view looking from the north bank towards the south bank of the Patea River, with a ship cast up on the beach opposite, and two people standing by it.

The ship is possibly the SS Moa which under the command of Captain Christey [Christie] ran into rocks following the loss of its rudder. See: Wellington Independent, Volume XX, Issue 2225, 29 June 1865, Page 3, https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/WI18650629.2.3.4
