A TVNZ employee excitedly asks a fellow worker what arrived in a brown paper bag. The other stares disbelievingly at a sheet of paper reading "$7 million damages claim." Refers to a damages claim lodged against Television New Zealand by New Zealand First leader Winston Peters regarding their reporting on his policy advisor Ross Meurant, who allegedly received a $300,000 payout from a fisheries company.
Mr Meurant allegedy received a payment of $300,000 from Simunovich Fisheries who were a key player in a parliament inquiry into scampi allocation. It was alleged that the company was told it would be in their best intrests to make the payment and Meurant was rumoured to have boasted about having the money in "a brown paper bag".
