Looking north along Lambton Quay, Wellington, from the Featherston Street intersection. First left is the South British Insurance Company building. Second from the right is the Union Bank of Australia with a drinking fountain in front. Photograph taken by the Burton Brothers circa 1880s.

The South British Insurance Company building was designed by Thomas Turnbull, built circa 1878 and demolished in the 1930s. The Union Bank of Australia was designed by Christian Toxward, built circa 1874 and destroyed by fire in 1906. The drinking fountain in front of the bank was presented to Wellington by John Martin and unveiled in 1876.
