Photograph of the Ngauranga Gorge, taken on 22 March 1859 by Matthew Fortescue Moresby, paymaster on HMS Iris, which was in Wellington Harbour at the time.
Inscriptions: Album page - beneath image - Ngahauranga Valley, Wellington N Z
The diary of Wynne Albert Bankes, an officer on HMS Iris, which is held in the Dorset County Record Office, records that on 22 March Bankes went \"with Paymaster Moresby and Chaplain Campbell to take photographs up the Nerangai (sic) Gorge, beautiful scenery\".
PA1-f-019-07, taken on the same occasion, bears the inscription \"MFM\". PA1-f-019-36, also taken on the same occasion, bears the inscription \"22 Mch 1859\".
