Unidentified New Zealand soldier with an Italian 'thermos bomb' boobytrap, in Egypt, during World War 2. Photographer unidentified.

The 'thermos bombs' were dropped in the Western Desert. They looked like a khaki-coloured thermos flask and were designed to explode when moved. Dvr G. R. Osborn was killed by one in the Western Desert on the 13th of September 1940. His was the first death from enemy action in 2 NZEF.
