Steam locomotive 492, Wg class, type 4-6-4T, built by NZR Hillside. Three railway employees stand on the left, one on the ground. The two men standing inside the cab are identified as "Leadbetter" and "J Hosie in Godber Album (Vol 108, p 62. PA1-q-101). Photograph taken by Albert Percy Godber between 1912 and 1949 at Lower Hutt.

Inscriptions: Photographer's title on negative - bottom centre - Wg Loco 492. Cyls 14"x22". Driv. wheels 3'9". Steam pressure 200 lbs. Grate area 16.9 sq ft. Total heating surface 739 sq ft.
\"Wg\" 492 entered service on the 21st of August 1912 and was written off in February 1956 (Information from the 'Register of New Zealand Railways steam locomotives, 1863-1971' by W G Lloyd, 1974, page 64.)
