Description

Diary of Dominion Museum ethnological expedition to the East Coast in 1923. In the expedition party were Best, Buck, Ngata and others.

Describes a visit (Mar-Apr 1923) to East Coast Maori pā (East Cape to Waipiro Bay) and Waiomatatini collecting recordings of Māori songs from Ngāti Porou. In the same party were Best, Buck, Ngata and others. Also an account of a visit to Tauranga (Dec 1923) and Kapiti (Dec 1924 -Jan 1925).

In the back of the diary are research notes on Māori songs, string games, and New Zealand bird songs.
