A general view looking over water to the Devonshire village of Bere Ferrers where a number of New Zealand soldiers were killed in an accident at the railway station there during World War I. On the left is a church, may be St Andrews. Also shows stone houses and a slight hill of fields and hedgerows. Photograph taken by Thomas Frederick Scales.

Ten New Zealand soldiers died as a result of an accident on 24 September 1917 at Bere Ferrers station when, alighting from a stationary train, they were hit by an oncoming express train.
