Description: A sketch by Sir Julius von Haast of Ferdinand von Hochstetter who is himself sketching atop a hut Ferdinand von Hochstetter and Charles Heaphy were attached to Sir Julius von Haast's staff and were commissioned by the New Zealand Government in 1859 to conduct a survey of the country.
