A view from a low hill looking down onto fenced paddocks, with a mare and foal in the foreground, the house of Henry Williams (the artist's father-in-law) with its garden and a flagpole, and the water of the Bay of Islands beyond. There are two houses in the view, or a house and chapel
Compare an almost identical view, also by T. B. Hutton 'Sketch of Henry Williams house and premises ...March 1859' (A-197-011). The view in the sketchbook was identified from this watercolour, which is inscribed in a contemporary hand
Loose at back of album. Has a separate provenance from the remainder of the album
T. B. Hutton arrived in New Zealand in 1843 and taught at St John's College at Waimate in the Bay of Islands until 1844 when he moved to Auckland.
