Description

This is a well-known commentary on the Song of Songs, variously attributed to different medieval authors including Cassiodorus, Isidore, and Hamo of Halberstadt, opening on f.1: 'Osculetur me osculo oris sui, Salomon inspiratus divino spiritu composuit hunc libellum...' ending on f.28: '...xpisti bonus odor sumus deo, in omni loco'.

Physical Description: Vellum, 28 leaves, bound; 178 x 128 mm. Double column, 37 lines, ruled in black ink, written space in dark-brown ink in a gothic bookhand using the punctus flexus punctuation, first heading in red, lemmata underlined in red with marginal diple in black, capitals touched in red, running-titles in alternately red and blue capitals.

Provenance: Executed in Germany in the last quarter of the 13th century.The name R.R.Howlett is in a modern hand on f.28v. Possibly a common provenance with MSR-14 (see Manion).
