Lodge, Nevile Sidney, 1918-1989 :"I see Allan Dick just scraped home down in Waitaki." "Yeah? Well I hope he pays a fair price so I get a decent divvy." "No, no, no, you've got it wrong; I'm talking about the by-election - not racing." "Oh, no I haven't - I'm talking about those tax cuts Keith Holyoake hinted at - when he had his bloke at the starting barrier." 12 March 1962

- Description
In six cameos two men are seen drinking in a pub and discussing the world's affairs. One of them holds a newspaper open at the 'Race results' and the other comments that he sees that Allan Dick scraped home down in Waitaki. They appear to be talking at cross-purposes, confusing the race results and the by-election but the man interested in the race results says that he's talking about the tax cuts that Keith Holyoake hinted at 'when he had his bloke at the starting barrier'. Refers to Allan Dick's winning of the 1962 Waitaki by-election, after the sudden death of the Hon. Thomas Hayman, who had held the seat from 1949.
