Description

Workmen putting the finishing touches to the newly built Victoria Bridge in Wanganui. The York Stockade can be seen atop York Hill on the far side of the Whanganui River. Photograph taken 1871 or 1872 by Benjamin Peyman.

Note on back of file print reads: ca 1872. Bridge opened Nov 1871. York Stockade dismantled by Dec 1872.
