Description

A New Zealand officer holding the reins of two bridled horses at Louvencourt, France, during World War I. Photographed by Henry Armytage Sanders in June 1918.

The horses had deserted from the German lines up to the New Zealand lines, by bolting over No Man's Land.

Print in album caption reads: "Horse sense. A pair of horses that deserted up our lines by bolting over to No Man's Land to our lines. The harness is of very poor quality leather. Louvencourt 1-6-18."
