Bishop Grimes was the first Catholic Bishop of Christchurch, New Zealand, appointed on 13 May 1887 and dying in office on 15 March 1915. He was a Governor of Canterbury College, a member of the Philosophical Institute and Vice-president of the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) (Info. from Scholefield Dictionary of New Zealand Biography)
