Carte de visite portrait of Margaret Joachim Dillon Bell (1822-1892) photographed by an unknown photographer in about 1866
The date of this portrait has been determined by the dress and hair style of the subject. By 1864 full crinoline dresses were going out of fashion, and from 1866 to 1869 they were replaced by the sort of dress in this photograph, which is more or less straight down the front and fuller behind. Hairstyles during this period abandoned the full symetrical style framing the face for the smaller, higher and tighter style seen here.
