Description

NZ transport passing through the township of Maadi at the end of their long run back from Tunisia after the conclusion of the campaign of North Africa near the end of May 1943. Photograph taken circa 10 June 1943 by Harold Gear Paton.

The New Zealanders were completing the last stage of the 2000 mile journey, from near Tunis, back to Egypt, after nearly a year's continuous campaigning. The roads of the camp are lined with men from base units, hospitals, and convalescent depots.
