Description

Thorndon in the foreground, with a gully crossed by a bridge, a house to the right, and a large tree. A man walking up a path towards the bridge and several chopped tree-trunks on the ground. A European cottage with thatched roof and a wooden chimney is in the right foreground. In the middle distance, flat land leading down towards Thorndon Quay with the backs of houses along the beachline. In the distance, the western hills to the left, the Kaiwharawhara Hotel and other houses at the water's edge and part of Wellington Harbour

The gully in the foreground is probably now part of the Thorndon motorway
