Flax and fern in the foreground, a plain with a few houses at the foot of one of Auckland's volcanic cones, the harbour and headlands in the background
Previously identified by the Library as Mount Wellington; however this seems unlikely. Mount Eden is the most likely subject, seen from One Tree Hill. An alternative is Mount Hobson seen from near Grafton Road. The small farms and houses would in either case be settlements along Epsom Road
