Description

Plan of Ruapekapeka Pa, belonging to Nga Puhi leader Te Ruki Kawiti, near the Kawakawa River, Bay of Islands. Shows Kawiti's house and pallisade, and several unnamed dwellings, ditches, embankments and gateways. A reference key identifies the destruction of sites by artillery within the Pa as well as the positions of the flagstaff and outworks, with explanatory notes to the left of the plan.

Also shows four cross-section insets of parts of the Pa (vertical scale [1:120]: section through ditches and pallisades; section through a hut; section through bombproof holes; and a cross section of the pa site across the hillslope, including underground bunkers. The final diagram shows a section of the fence surrounding the pa, with accompanying notes.
