Description

Vignettes referring to current events. Kitchener and Asquith in conversation about Asquith not knowing what to do with Kitchener, who suggests 'Couldn't we get up a war with somebody?'. 'The two Macs' shows MPs Tom McKenzie pursuing another Scots MP in a kilt. The pair are on tour, doing a song and dance act. 'United we stand, divided we arbitrate' shows John Bull and Uncle Sam, walking cheerfully in step, watched enviously by Kaiser Bill. Refers to a proposal that England and America should join in a treaty of unlimited arbitration. 'Wellington pressmen on the scent of a mystery' shows reporters hunting vainly for the Chief Justice, who has locked himself out of sight. The Cathedral is not part of the Square - legal idiocy, shows Christchurch Cathedral. 'St Thomas and the dragon' shows Tommy Taylor as an armed knight fighing against the Christchurch Gas Company, with 'Lake Coleridge scheme' as his lance. A man about to get his tooth crowned is assumed by a passer-by to be going to the Coronation. 'The new Farmers Party' shows three farmers pumping air into a huge fighting figure to act as opposition to Joseph Ward
