At the time of the 1954 New Zealand general election Sid Holland, leader of the National Party, stands on the 'National Soap[box]' saying "We will make the pound go further." On the 'Labour Soap[box] (soft)', Walter Nash declaims "We will make the pound go". On the third soapbox the leader of the newly-formed Social Credit Political League, W.B. Owen, says "We will make the pound."
