Description

A small pa on top of a steep island or headland at the bend of a river between steep banks. The pa includes an obelisk or upright waka as a memorial to a chief, palisades and several buildings, with a path winding steeply up to the summit of the hill

Angas travelled up several central North Island rivers during his 1844 visit to New Zealand. They included the Waikato River, the Waipa River (both Waikato Region) and the Ongarue and upper Whanganui Rivers (Manawatu-Whanganui Region)
