Subtitled, `Winter in the North Island', book two covers the Moules' journey from Tasmania via to Auckland in the `Monowai'; Moule wrote about the voyage in great detail, the ship, each stage of the journey and particularly of people met and places visited. The letters are also full of family references and jokes. In this volume Moule writes of his and his wife's visits to Northland, Wellington, the Kapiti coast, Lower Hutt, Wanganui, Stratford, and Dunedin, and he describes fully the people he met, especially musicians such as Lilburn and Farquhar, and music events.
