Shows a view from the water of a small stretch of beach on which three canoes are drawn up. A group of Maori inhabitants stand on the shore, and further inland is a group of houses and a higher building which may be a storehouse, with a separate house surrounded by a verandah on a slight rise at the far left. On the shore in the far right foreground is a tree with red blossoms, possibly a pohutukawa.
