Surveyor Julius von Haast's visual notes on his surroundings during climbs in the Nelson Lakes district and through to the West Coast. Valleys and mountain ranges with peaks and other features marked. The Maruia River on the right at the edge of a broad plain with mountains beyond.
Pages 26 and 27 from a survey notebook, with notes in Haast's hand; cf. his Report of a topographical & geological exploration ... Nelson 1861, which describes this journey in detail
