Two studies of the head of Pomare, a young visitor to London from Taranaki in 1863. The left head is in profile looking to the right, the right head in profile looking to the left.
Drawn in London when Pomare, a young Ngapuhi man, and his wife Hariata were visiting with a group of other Ngapuhi. Their child was born in London and christened Albert Victor. His godmother was Queen Victoria. The associated oil painting of the couple with their baby belongs to the Rex Nan Kivell Collection, National Library of Australia, and is on long-term loan to the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra
