Standing full-length portrait of a young woman, formally dressed, in an interior setting. Shows Isabella Turnbull, older sister of Alexander Turnbull. Painted in Edinburgh
Painted in Edinburgh in 1880 at the same time as portraits by the same artist of Walter (Rack-388) and Alexandrina Turnbull (G-655), Isabella's and Alexander Turnbull's parents. The artist is likely to have been a relative of the Turnbulls. Alexandrina's maiden name was Horsburgh, as was Walter's grandmother's maiden name.
This portrait was possibly copied from a photograph. Reproduced as plate 7 in McCormick, E H. Alexander Turnbull, his life, his circle, his collections (Wellington, 1974).
