Description

Hone Heke standing, his face in profile, wearing a flax cloak. At his left side and slightly behind him is Hariata, his wife, also in a flax cloak.

The artist painted several variant versions of this double portrait and a lithographed version (with Kawiti) as a triple portrait is entitled 'The warrior chieftains of New Zealand'
